A Philadelphia man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for robbing six banks, including one in the Northeast, between July 24, 2009, and last Aug. 10.
Aaron Thomas, 47, pleaded guilty to all six heists in March. Three of the crimes occurred in Abington Township and two on City Avenue in Overbrook, while one occurred at the TD Bank branch at Roosevelt Boulevard and Grant Avenue on Sept. 17, 2009.
Abington police captured Thomas shortly after he robbed a PNC Bank branch on Old York Road last Aug. 10. The robber led officers in a vehicle and foot pursuit that resulted in injuries to two officers and property damage to several vehicles.
Thomas has two prior bank robbery convictions. In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence F. Stengel ordered Thomas to pay $30,905 in restitution. ••
