An opportunistic thief grabbed a woman’s purse from the front seat of her unattended and unlocked car in a Burholme parking lot last month, but police now have images of the unknown crook.
Investigators on Friday posted video of the crime on the Philadelphia Police Department’s YouTube.com channel. The theft occurred on June 23 at 5:09 a.m. at 800 Cottman Ave., near the Ryers train station, while the victim was shopping inside a nearby store. The video shows the thief sitting inside a four-door Cadillac sedan as the victim left her vehicle unattended. The thief then moved his vehicle next to the victim’s car, exited his car, opened the victim’s door, grabbed her purse and fled the area.
Police described the thief as white, 30 to 40 years old, bald, with a stocky build and wearing a T-shirt with shorts. His car was described as a 2006–2008 tan Cadillac sedan.
