Residents of the Northeast have been invited to participate in a host of local events related to the National Association of Town Watch’s annual National Night Out observances next week.
As reported in last week’s Northeast Times, state Reps. Kevin Boyle and Brendan Boyle will co-sponsor the return of the Fox Chase Town Watch event at Fox Chase Elementary School on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. More than 40 businesses and public officials will be represented as well as the police and fire departments. Visitors can meet their state representatives, along with local police and firefighters, while learning about municipal, state and federal services available to them. There will be anti-crime programs, children’s activities and free snacks and refreshments. This year marks the return of the Fox Chase event after a one-year hiatus.
In the 8th Police District, Town Watch members and police invited neighbors to visit the Knights Road Shopping Center on Aug. 6 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Business and public officials will be joined by police and fire department representatives. Attractions will include fire truck demonstrations and horses from the police Mounted Unit.
On a citywide scale, one of two NNO “Kick-Off Rallies” will be held in the Northeast on Monday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. at Target Shopping Center, 7400 Bustleton Ave. A simultaneous event will be held at Sacks Recreation Center at 400 Washington Ave. in South Philly.
The Target event will double as a kickoff for Public Safety Awareness Month and is sponsored by Philadelphia’s Town Watch Integrated Services, Target and the Philadelphia Police Department. There will be city dignitaries, a VIP guest, police officials and Town Watch leaders in attendance, with music, entertainment, fun and refreshments for all visitors.
Town Watch Integrated Services also encourages neighbors throughout the city to help promote National Night Out by turning on their porch lights on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and “saying no” to crime and drugs. ••
