Bring your ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ to an Elvis tribute fundraiser

Sixteen Elvis Presley tribute artists will be performing at Cannstatter’s later this week as part of a benefit for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The nonprofit Digi Foundation, which raises money for CHOP, is producing the program. The Northeast Times is a co-sponsor.

Tickets cost $30, and the purchase is tax deductible. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult. Parking is free. Food and beverages will be available for an additional cost. Doors open at 5 p.m.

“It’s all for a good cause,” said promoter Charlie Luecke, president of Digi Foundation. “CHOP is getting 100 percent of all the money.”

Thomas Charles Majkowski, Luecke’s now 5-year-old grandson, was treated at CHOP for heart issues as an infant. Today, he is healthy.

“We’re indebted to CHOP,” Luecke said.

Cannstatter’s offers its venue for free, and the Elvis tribute artists donate their time.

“They’re coming from all over the place,” said Luecke, noting that the singers hail from southern Virginia to upstate New York.

The CHOP fundraiser will continue on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the German Volksfest/Octoberfest, noon to 10 p.m. at Cannstatter’s. Money will be raised at a Frisbee trashcan throw, with prizes being tickets to an Elvis Christmas show. There will also be a raffle for a Fogel USA refrigerated beer meister, worth more than $3,300. And KYW (1060 AM) will raise money on Saturday afternoon at its Kidscast tent.

“There’s plenty to do the whole weekend,” Luecke said. “We’re going to have a fun time over there.”
