A Pottstown man is facing child rape charges after he allegedly picked up a 12-year-old runaway in Frankford, took her to a Northeast motel and forced her to have sex with him. Police arrested George Williams, 40, at his home on Aug. 28. According to court records, he is charged with rape, unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, corruption of a minor, indecent assault with a person younger than 13 and indecent exposure.
The Philadelphia Daily News reported that the victim was a 12-year-old runaway from Atlantic City who took public transit to the Frankford Transportation Center on July 31, when Williams approached her, identified himself as “Miami” and paid her $50 to get into his car. The news article cited an affidavit of probable cause prepared by investigators. That day, Williams allegedly persuaded the girl to help him burglarize a home in East Germantown. On Aug. 8, Williams allegedly met up with the girl and took her to the Roosevelt Inn at 7600 Roosevelt Blvd., where he rented a room and asked her to shower with him. She refused, then fell asleep in the room, only to wake up with Williams naked, on top of her and having sex with her, the Daily News reported.
The girl threatened to call police and fell asleep. When she woke up on Aug. 9, Williams allegedly had fled, leaving behind a room key and $20. Police arrested the girl at a relative’s home in Germantown later that day. Upon Williams’ arrest, authorities brought him to Philadelphia to face charges. He posted $100,000 bail on Aug. 30 and was released. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 17. ••
