Philadelphia police on Friday announced the arrest of a second man in connection with the May 5 burglary of the Delaire Pharmacy in East Torresdale.
Samuel Wiley, 45, of the 6900 block of Keystone St. in Tacony, allegedly conspired with another man to break into the business, disarm the alarm system and steal prescription medications. Detectives identified him as one of the burglars after “a long and intense investigation” and arrested him on Aug. 28 at an undisclosed location. Police did not detail evidence linking Wiley to the crime.
On Aug. 23, police from Philadelphia and North Wildwood arrested Wiley’s alleged accomplice, Dennis Woods, 37, of the 4000 block of Bleigh Ave. Woods was holed up at the Aruba Motel at 20th and Surf avenues in North Wildwood, police said. Philadelphia authorities took custody of him last Thursday. Previously, Woods lived in South Philly.
Detectives recovered surveillance video from the crime that showed two men arriving at the pharmacy, at 9456 State Road, in a red Jeep Grand Cherokee. One of the men broke into the business, while the other waited outside listening to a police scanner, police said. The inside man disarmed an alarm and took numerous pills. A short time later, the outside man alerted his partner that the police were coming. Both burglars then fled in the Jeep northbound on State Road.
Both men are charged with burglary and related offenses. Wiley is also charged with drug possession and is scheduled for a Sept. 12 preliminary hearing. Woods is scheduled for a Sept. 20 preliminary hearing. ••
