City seeks feedback on proposed Frankford Creek Trail

What do you think about a trail along the Frankford Creek that would run from Wingohocking Street in Juniata all the way to Bridesburg near the Delaware River?

Representatives of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department want to hear the public’s views on the “Frankford Creek Greenway” at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, at the Juniata Golf Club House, 1391 E. Cayuga St.

The trail has been in the planning stages since 2007, Rob Armstrong, Parks & Rec’s preservation and capital projects manager, said last week.

“We’re now at a good spot to find out what the public has to say,” he said.

The trail is conceived as a paved walkway that generally will be 12 feet-wide. The plan was started by the Philadelphia Water Department before Parks & Rec took over, Armstrong said, and will be completed with cooperation from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The trail will start about a block down Cayuga Street where a similar path stops along the Tacony Creek, Armstrong said. Bike lanes on Cayuga will link the two. On the eastern end, the Frankford Creek Greenway will tie into a trail through Port Richmond, Armstrong added, and all of that will become part of a system that goes through the eastern United States called the East Coast Greenway.

All of that is years ahead, Armstrong said, but stressed the public’s ideas are needed to help further plan and design the greenway. ••
