Vandals did an estimated $50,000 in damage to Lincoln High Schools athletic field in early September.
They set a goal post on fire and painted graffiti on the field’s artificial turf, school district spokesman Fernando Gallard said last week.
Vandals also damaged the press box, cut a four square foot hole in the turf and so damaged the scoreboard that it cannot be used, Gallard said.
Police said the vandalism occurred in the early morning on Sept. 7.
Repairs have been made to the field, Gallard said, and it is being used. “But it needs further repair,” he added.
“It’s just an eyesore,” he said.
The field was only refurbished in the last few years. After a fundraising campaign, the artificial turf was installed and a new track was put in, Gallard said.
The $50,000 cost to repair the damages is just an estimate, Gallard said. The actual cost has not been determined yet.
