The American Legion’s 5th District and McNally’s on Rhawn invite all U.S. military members past and present, along with their families and their friends, to commemorate Veterans Day while raising money for a worthy cause, the Delaware Valley Veterans Home.
McNally’s, 427 Rhawn St. in Fox Chase, will host the 5th District’s annual fundraiser for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 9, two days before the official observance of Veterans Day. There will be two sessions from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., then from 3 to 7 p.m. Admission costs $25 per person per session.
The day will kick off at 11 a.m. with a color guard and readings by veterans to honor their brothers and sisters in arms. Military members are invited to show up in uniform or wearing the colors of their vets organizations. They also are invited to bring their old military photos for display.
The admission cost covers the buffet and domestic beer, draft or bottles. There will also be DJ entertainment, 50/50s and raffles, all in support of the nursing home at Roosevelt Boulevard and Southampton Road. The festivities will be held inside and out. Neighboring Fox Chase Bank has agreed to reserve a portion of its parking lot for the event.
In support of the fundraiser, McNally’s is selling commemorative long-sleeve T-shirts for $20 each. They are now available.
American Legion’s 5th district includes 15 posts based in Northeast Philadelphia and the city’s River Wards as far south as Lehigh Avenue. Organizers are hoping to make the Veterans Day commemoration a districtwide activity. ••
