NE man arrested in string of burglaries

Police on Monday announced the arrest of a Northeast man for breaking into at least seven area businesses last month.

Howard Jacobson, 40, of the 2500 block of Welsh Road, allegedly burglarized two Fox Chase shops on Oct. 15 at about 2 a.m. The first occurred at Bob’s Hair Design, 7966 Dungan Road, when Jacobson allegedly parked his black Hyundai Santa Fe outside the shop, smashed the glass front door, grabbed a cash register drawer and fled.

Minutes later, Jacobson allegedly showed up in the same vehicle at Verree Express Pizza, 7959 Verree Road, smashed the glass door and tampered with a cash register. A surveillance camera filmed Jacobson carrying a cash register drawer outside the pizzeria before he broke into the business, police said.

Investigators recovered surveillance video from both crime scenes and released it to the public on Oct. 22. Tipsters identified Jacobson as the culprit.

One day later, Jacobson allegedly assaulted police on the 900 block of E. Tioga St. and was arrested. Since then, detectives have linked him to additional burglaries in the areas of 9400 State Road, 6700 Bustleton Ave., 6400 Sackett St. and 2500 Welsh Road. ••
