Nazareth Hospital’s Ticora Marable wins DAISY award

Nazareth Hospital’s Professional Practice Council recognized the hospital’s DAISY Award recipient for the fourth quarter of 2013: Ticora Marable, BSN, RN, of the Sixth Floor Transitional Care Unit. Ticora was presented with the award by Michael F. Beshel, MBA, MHA, BSN, RN-NE-BC, VP, Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Ticora was nominated by two different patients. The first patient expressed kind words about Ticora’s willingness to help patients, no matter how big or small the request.

“From day one, she has made me feel safe and comfy. Whenever I buzz, she is there with a smile and a helping hand. No question is too small for her to answer. There needs to be more people like Ticora in this world. Ticora has made a difference in my life and I couldn’t thank her enough. Ticora, in my eyes, deserves this award,” Patient 1 said.

Patient 2 echoed similar sentiments about Ticora, adding, “Ticora’s pleasant smile reflects her personality. From day one, “T” informed me of all my medications. She printed out warning signs and what foods to avoid. My stay has been much better since Ticora was in my life. She is one of those people who will go that extra mile to help you. She is an asset to Nazareth Hospital.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick “Pat” Barnes. The care Patrick received inspired the Barnes family to create the DAISY Awards to recognize nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and their families.

Patients, visitors, physicians, other nurses or team members can nominate a Nazareth nurse for the DAISY award. One recipient is selected each quarter. Each honoree receives a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. The DAISY award winner’s unit coworkers celebrate with a treat of cinnamon rolls, in keeping with a tradition the Barnes family established.
