Cancer benefit raises $3,400

Gift of generosity: From left, Linda Hammels, Carol Rostucher, state Rep. John Sabatina Jr. and Mark Sabatina. The walk was in honor of their mom, Judy Sabatina, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1998.

The recent Judy’s Answer for Cancer 2.5K Walk/Run raised $3,400 for Fox Chase Cancer Center. The event, held in memory of Judy Sabatina, took place in Pennypack Park, which was decorated with balloon gateways at the entrance. About 100 people participated, and they had the opportunity to tour the Fox Chase mammography van.

Money was raised by donations and raffle baskets. Guests received goodie bags, and local hospitals offered giveaways. Local businesses donated food.

State Rep. John Sabatina Jr. (D-174th dist.), whose mom died of breast cancer in 1998, spoke about his and his brother’s experiences as they watched their mother battle the disease. ••
