Shooting in Frankford leaves one wounded

Surveillance photo

An average-sized man with a really big gun is on the loose in Frankford. And he doesn’t seem to be afraid of using the weapon.

Surveillance video released by Philadelphia police last week shows the gunman firing a slug into the hip of a man on the corner of Frankford Avenue and Church Street. The shooting occurred on Dec. 29 at 11:46 a.m., police said.

Cameras filmed the gunman as he walked westbound on Church, then southbound on Frankford in front of the Bacalao Food Market. Two victims — brothers ages 20 and 21 — were standing in front of the store and appeared to engage in a conversation with the passing pedestrian, who stopped and pulled out a handgun with what police described as a “long barrel.” The gunman demanded the victim’s belongings, police said.

More words were exchanged before one of the brothers pulled a cell phone from his pocket. An instant later, the gunman fired, then ran eastbound on Church Street. The brothers were able to flee southbound on Frankford, although the bullet had struck one of the victims in the right hip and exited through his right buttocks.

The gunman was described as black, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall and stocky. He wore a blue puffy suede jacket with a white thermal shirt, blue jeans, blue hat and tan boots.
