Philadelphia Police Officer Timothy Taylor has been named Officer of the Month in the 7th district after his recent arrests of two men for assault and attempted rape.
The alleged crimes occurred on Dec. 17 shortly after 2 p.m. on the 9900 block of Bustleton Ave. A woman called 911 to report that two men had made sexual advances toward her, then pelted her with ice chunks after she rebuffed them.
With officers at the scene, the victim stated that she had been approached by two men in the street. One of the men allegedly offered to pay her $10 if she performed a sexual act. The woman refused and attempted to move away from the men, but the men continued to harass her with lewd comments, according to police.
Eventually, the men began throwing ice at the woman. One of the chunks struck her in the head and another in the neck, knocking her to the ground. The men ran northbound on Bustleton Avenue.
Taylor was on patrol when he heard descriptions of the two assailants. He spotted two suspects on the street at Bustleton Avenue and Red Lion Road. Taylor detained the men, allowing for another officer to transport the victim to the intersection. She identified the suspects as her attackers.
Both men were arrested on felony charges, including aggravated assault.
Members of the 7th Police District Advisory Council honored Taylor as Officer of the Month during the group’s monthly meeting on Jan. 16 at Randi’s restaurant in Bustleton. ••
