Off-duty police officer shoots dog-doo dumper

A Lawndale dog owner ended up with a bullet hole in his leg after he allowed his pet to take a dump in an off-duty cop’s front yard, then refused to clean up the mess, according to Philadelphia police.

The episode began on Saturday shortly before noon when Lordan Lunsk, 39, was walking his dog on the 6400 block of Oakley St. and the animal defecated on the officer’s lawn. The off-duty cop was outside working on his car at the time and asked Lunsk to remove the mess, but Lunsk refused, police said.

The two men exchanged words before Lunsk left the area. Lunsk, of the 6400 block of Argyle St., returned a few minutes later without his dog and picked a fight with the off-duty officer, according to police. Lunsk allegedly punched the officer several times in the face and head, pulled the officer’s sweatshirt over his head and continued assaulting him.

While Lunsk was positioned behind the officer, who was bent over, the officer pulled a pistol from his hip and fired backward, wounding Lunsk in the right thigh. Lunsk fell to the ground.

Paramedics took Lunsk to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was treated and released. The officer, whose name has not been released, was treated for cuts and bruises at Jeanes Hospital.

Lunsk was charged with aggravated assault, trespassing and related offenses. Police said that he has three prior arrests, including two for burglary and one for DUI.

The police department’s Internal Affairs Bureau and the District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate the case. The officer was placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. ••
