Arrests made in convenience store robberies

John Gordon

With the help of surveillance video and public tips, police have made arrests in connection with two February robberies of Northeast convenience stores.

Terrell Carter, 23, was charged with robbing the Neighborhood Convenience Store at 1301 Fillmore St. on Feb. 8, while John Gordon, 31, was charged with attempting to rob the Wawa at 6400 Torresdale Ave. on Feb. 22.

Police released video of Carter’s alleged crime on Feb. 18. Four days later, a citizen approached two 15th district patrol cops, identified Carter and told the officers of the suspect’s whereabouts. The officers found Carter and took him into custody.

Carter, of the 4600 block of Oakland St., allegedly walked into the Neighborhood Convenience Store on Feb. 8 wearing a mask and gloves and handed a demand note to a cashier, stating that he had a gun. He grabbed the cashier, whose children witnessed the incident, and forced her to open the cash register, police said.

Police released video of the Wawa incident on Feb. 26 and received an anonymous tip shortly thereafter identifying Gordon as the crook. Two days later, police spotted Gordon walking on the 6500 block of Torresdale Ave. and arrested him.

Gordon, of the 4500 block of Tudor St., also used a demand note in an attempt to rob the store, police alleged, but he fled the scene empty handed. ••
