The Elysian Dance Company will present its annual spring concert on Sunday, March 30, at 1 p.m., at St. Hubert High School, 7320 Torresdale Ave.
The entrance is on Ditman Street. Advance tickets cost $12, or $8 for senior citizens and students. Tickets at the door are $15, or $10 for seniors and students. Proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Ann Pulaski Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of the Arts and St. Hubert. The dance company is based at Anna Marie’s Academy of Dance, 7201 Marsden St. in Tacony.
Liz Pulaski was a 1979 St. Hubert graduate and a junior at the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts (now University of the Arts) when she died of a brain aneurysm in 1981 at age 20.
Bill and Anna Marie Pulaski, her parents, own the dance studio and began the scholarship program soon after their daughter’s death. The University of the Arts winner, a junior with financial need, receives $3,000 toward her tuition senior year. The St. Hubert winner, a junior and member of the school’s dance club, receives $1,000 for her tuition senior year.
The 90-minute concert will feature 23 dancers from Elysian’s company, junior and training programs. The girls range in age from 11 to 18 and will perform ballet, jazz and modern dances.
Also performing will be Michelle Tatiya, the 2013 scholarship recipient from University of the Arts. The hip-hop group Justsole will entertain. The group includes Brittany Stanger, a 2008 Elysian graduate.
The concert will also feature an alumni group’s version of Black Velvet by Alannah Myles.
The alums consist of Stephanie (Patras) McGoldrick (class of 1998); Angela (Capriotti) Pazdunkiewicz (class of 1996); Gina (Kravetz) Wierzbowski (class of 1996); Siobhan Hogan (class of 2003); and MaryKate McDonnell (class of 2012).
“It’s a chance to reminisce with people,” McGoldrick said.
The alumni choreographer is Daniela Galdi, who has the distinction of being the only person to receive the Pulaski scholarship while a student at St. Hubert and University of the Arts. The alums, performing for the fourth time in the show, will be placed fourth among 11 routines. They’ll wear black dresses during their threeminute performance.
“It always comes together in the end,” said McGoldrick, who has performed in the first three alumni routines.
Mackenzie Weissman, a New Foundations Charter School seventh-grader and McGoldrick’s 13-year-old daughter, will perform with Elysian’s junior company.
“It will be exciting for both of us to share the stage,” McGoldrick said. “Our family is anxious to see it.”
