Three Father Judge High School seniors, including a former state champion wrestler, were stabbed during a brawl with other teens on a Mayfair street last Friday night.
According to police, Joe Galasso, his cousin James Galasso and their friend Tom Bayer were walking along the 7500 block of Rowland Ave. at about 11 p.m. when they passed another group of about 10 young people who were walking on the opposite side of the street.
A member of the other group allegedly threw a glass bottle that struck one of the victims in the head and prompted an argument, then a physical fight. All three Judge students were stabbed before the attackers ran away. Police reportedly received multiple 911 calls and arrived at the scene to find the injured victims in the street. Two of the teens were taken to Aria Health-Torresdale, while a third was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. All were listed in stable condition.
James Galasso and Bayer are also members of the Judge wrestling team as well as the school’s football team.
Witnesses reportedly recognized one of the attackers, leading police to a house on the 3400 block of Lansing St. Officers arrested six suspects inside the house and captured a seventh alleged attacker a short time later on the 3400 block of Shelmire Ave.
The defendants are David Cramp, 19, of Bristol; Hellena Andro, 20, of the 15000 block of London Road in Somerton; John Farrell, 18, of the 3400 block of Ryan Ave. in Mayfair; and Ryan Palen, 18, of the 8300 block of Torresdale Ave. in Holmesburg; as well as Tyler Bollinger, Edward Farrell and Carlos Jimenez, all 17, whose addresses were not released.
One of the alleged attackers was treated at Aria Health-Frankford for hand abrasions.
All seven were charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy and related offenses and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 11. ••
