Suspect caught on camera during burglary

Surveillance photo

On a scale of one to 10, the surveillance video of a recent residential burglary in Tacony is at least an 11.

Detectives recovered the footage from the second floor of a home on the 6900 block of Torresdale Ave. On March 31 at about 9 p.m., a man broke a rear window of the house, climbed inside and went upstairs, where he found some jewelry and a BB rifle. He exited the house through the rear window and fled in an unknown direction.

The burglar didn’t bother turning on the lights while searching the house. He used the flashlight on his cell phone instead. So he probably never saw the night-vision camera mounted at the top of the stairwell even as he looked directly at the lens for a Hollywood-caliber close-up.

The full video is available on the Philadelphia Police channel at YouTube.com. The burglar was described as black, 20 to 25 years old, with a mustache, beard, wool knit hat, blue jeans and one dark-colored glove.
