LaRhonda Brunson, of the Northeast, is the first winner of JEVS Human Services’ Inspiration Award.
Brunson was honored at the 15th annual JEVS Strictly Business Awards ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel in Center City. The luncheon attracted about 650 people.
The award is given to an individual who persevered through life’s obstacles.
Brunson is a graduate of Orleans Technical Institute’s human services program. She turned an internship at Gaudenzia Inc., a drug-and-alcohol-treatment program, into a job as a house manager and, after being promoted, to a career as a counselor assistant.
As a youth growing up in Southwest Philadelphia, she overcame a variety of issues, then worked in the catering industry. She credits her faith and enrollment in the human services program as life-changing experiences. ••
