The 300,000th tree to be planted as part of the city’s “Plant One Million” program will be put in the ground on Friday morning at St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls.
Twenty-two new trees will be planted on the school’s grounds at 7320 Torresdale Ave., according to Alan Jaffe, a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society spokesman. PHS Tree Tenders will plant 800 trees throughout Philadelphia that weekend.
It’s a good time for all that planting. After all, April 25 is Arbor Day.
Plant One Million’s purpose is to restore the region’s tree coverage and encompasses 13 counties in three states. The program is led by PHS, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department, the TreeVitalize program of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the New Jersey Tree Foundation and the Delaware Center for Horticulture.
Participating in Friday’s planting at St. Hubert’s will be Francis Farrell, the school’s president; PHS president Drew Becher; Gavin Goschinski, a St. Hubert parent and a PHS Tree Tender; and Stephen Goin, Philadelphia manager of Bartlett Tree Experts. ••
