Thank you for Northeast Hall of Fame nominations
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for your time and effort in submitting your suggestions for the fourth induction class of the Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame.
Our nine-member selection committee carefully took your nominations into consideration when we selected the 2014 inductees. Please know that your past suggestions played a very significant role in our selection of previous years’ inductees, including Thomas Holme, Benjamin Rush, Robert Purvis, Henry and Mary Disston, Saint Katharine Drexel, Harry Silcox, Butch Ballard, Tom Gola, Joan Krajewski, Sister Mary Scullion, Frank Shuman, the Rev. Leon Sullivan, Ed Kelly, and Chris Ferguson along with local institutions Aid for Friends and SPIN (Special People In Northeast), and the following historic houses of worship: Unity Monthly Meeting Frankford, Byberry Monthly Meeting, Pennepack Baptist Church, Trinity Church Oxford, Presbyterian Church of Frankford, All Saints Episcopal Church, and Campbell African Methodist Episcopal Church.
I would also like to thank our sponsor, Glen Foerd on the Delaware, and our partners the Historical Society of Frankford, The Northeast Times, and City Councilman Dennis M. O’Brien for their support in this endeavor.
Holy Family University is proud to be a part of this tradition. This endeavor embodies Holy Family University’s mission in particular; the core value of vision. Holy Family University envisions learning as a dynamic and fruitful exchange between traditional sources of wisdom and contemporary developments in knowledge. All of our Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame inductees have served or continue to serve as a foundation upon which to address contemporary problems and to build a vision for the future. These individuals and institutions are to be commended for their contributions and you are to be applauded for recognizing their efforts.
The 2014 inductees into the Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame will be announced on May 8.

Help our beloved veterans
Our government does an abysmal job when it comes to taking care of the men and women who have sacrificed so much to keep us free. When it comes down to it, they are merely amateurs.
So it must be left to the professionals to pick up the slack and do the job right. That would be none other than the most generous and kindest people on the planet — the American people.
You can come out to Media, Delaware County on May 3 for Operation First Response, Walk For The Wounded at Rose Tree Park. This fundraiser will help our wounded heroes with medical and personal expenses. You can personally see how the American people get it done. You can also make a visit to The Philadelphia Veterans House, formally The Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House at 4108 Baltimore Ave. in Southwest Philly. All of these organizations are top-notch charities looking for volunteers and donations.
Helping people is a lot of fun and rewarding. It is a shame our politicians are missing out.

Bullying is always wrong
Bullying is a major topic in society. Every kid either witnessed bullying, has been bullied or is a bully. Many teachers or grownups wouldn’t try to fix the subject or have not seen it happen.
So people who want kids in the society to be safe, they came up with anti-bullying programs at schools and in neighborhoods. At New Foundations Charter High School, we just finished an anti-bullying project for sociology.
Bullying is no joke. Bullying is so wrong. Kids take their lives, which is a permanent thing to a temporary problem. People who bully either feel really low about themselves or have problems and take them out on other people, which is not right. Help us end bullying for good!
