Police detectives are investigating two shootings in the Northeast early this week that left two people hospitalized.
The first incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on the 1600 block of Margaret Street just east of Frankford Avenue. A 17-year-old girl told investigators that she heard gunfire and felt something strike her leg. She didn’t see the shooter, however, and walked to Aria Health’s Frankford Campus two blocks away. Authorities described her injury as a graze wound and did not release her name. Detectives are looking for surveillance video from the scene to identify the shooter.
About nine hours later, unidentified robbers shot a 33-year-old man in the thigh outside the Northeast Regional Library on the 2200 block of Cottman Ave. The victim told police he was waiting for a bus when two men approached him, including at least one who had a gun, and demanded money. The victim reportedly said he had no money to give, so a robber shot him. The crooks fled the area.
Paramedics took that victim to Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus, where he underwent surgery later Monday, police said. Detectives returned to the scene Monday to search for surveillance video while awaiting the opportunity to interview the victim further. The victim’s name was not released. ••
