15th PDAC honors officers

Those two guys on the 3300 block of Tyson Avenue late on March 11 were cops. That turned out to be bad news for the three other guys who were attacking and robbing a man. They’re now in custody.

Officers Patrick Biles and Sean Devlin were in plain-clothes on March 11, members of the 15th Police District Advisory Council were told during their April 28 meeting at the Mayfair Community Center. They went after the victim’s attackers, nabbing one right away and broadcasting information that led to two more arrests. Devlin and Biles were honored April 28 as the PDAC’s March officers of the month.

Alan Leppert, the PDAC’s new president, said he has been researching the organization’s membership history and his duties.

One report he got was that the PDAC at one point had more than 80 members; another put the figure at about 30. Either way, the attendance at the group’s monthly meetings usually is sparse.

Leppert said he is contacting area organizations to find out if they want to send representatives to the PDAC. PDAC membership is not open to the general public. Members represent area Town Watches, civic groups, schools, churches or local businesses.

Leppert said a vigil in honor of slain 15th District Community Relations Officer Gary Skerski will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 8 at Pat’s Cafe, Castor Avenue and Arrott Street. Skerski was killed in May 2006 as he entered the bar to investigate a robbery report.

Treasurer Pete Specos said the PDAC will be taking part in Mayfair Day on Frankford Avenue on May 17.

PDAC members usually meet on the last Monday of the month, but they’ll meet May 19 because of the Memorial Day holiday. The session will begin at 7 p.m. at the Mayfair Community Center, 2990 St. Vincent St. ••
