The Mayfair Business Association is working with other community groups on a couple of events scheduled for later this month.
The MBA works closely with the Mayfair Civic Association and the Mayfair Community Development Corporation.
The sixth annual Mayfair Fallen Heroes 5K Run & Walk will take place on Saturday, May 17, rain or shine.
The event will be held in memory of Fire Capt. John Taylor, who died in a Port Richmond fire in 2004.

The cost is $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the run/walk.
Sign-ups will be taken until May 16 at Bellalisa Hair Studio, 3530 Cottman Ave.
Registration on the day of the run/walk will go from 7:30 to 8:20 a.m. at Mayfair Memorial Playground, at Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. The run/walk will begin at 8:30.
Proceeds will go to Hero Thrill Show Inc., which provides college scholarships to the children of Philadelphia police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty, and to Mayfair Memorial Playground.
Later that day will be the Mayfair May Fair, also held rain or shine.
Most of the activities will take place along Frankford Avenue, from Cottman Avenue to Bleigh Avenue.
Highlights will include live music, military vehicles, carnival games, prizes, giveaways, sidewalk sales, craft vendors and a dunk tank sponsored by Mayfair Town Watch.
There will be free meter parking along the avenue, from Harbison Avenue to Rhawn Street.

• The business association is worried about the impact on the neighborhood if a methadone clinic moves into a property at Frankford Avenue and Decatur Street.
One guest suggested that the group look to Detroit and Newark, N.J., for best practices and strategies in dealing with issues such as trash, loitering and crime.
“They’re models we want to emulate,” business association president Mike “Scoats” Scotese joked, dismissing any suggestion that the group look to those two decaying cities for advice.
• Lori Spadaro, a field organizer for Nextdoor.com, encouraged people to sign up for the website, which connects neighbors for an online discussion of issues of concern.
The national site is funded by several Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.
