Mayfair beauty salon robbed at gunpoint

Three men walked into a Mayfair beauty salon on May 2 trying to cover their faces, but it wasn’t because they were overdue for makeovers. They robbed the place at gunpoint, according to police.

In fact, detectives suspect that the same group also was responsible for a similar heist in Hunting Park three days later.

The initial crime occurred at Mayfair Nail, 4200 Cottman Ave., just east of Frankford Avenue. At about 7:19 p.m., the three unknown robbers entered the business, with two of them carrying handguns. Once inside, two of them walked table to table, grabbing cash, cellphones and handbags from numerous patrons and employees. A third robber stood by the door as a lookout, preventing a woman and her child from fleeing the shop.

After a couple of minutes, the robbers fled the shop and ran southbound on Erdrick Street, then east through an alley. One was described as black, 25 to 27 years old, 200 pounds, with a dark complexion, a mustache and beard, a black hoodie, blue jeans and tan boots. A second robber was described as black, 20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, a black hoodie, blue jeans and black sneakers. The third was described as black, thin, with a black hoodie, camouflage pants, black sneakers and a baseball cap with a black brim.

A similar second robbery occurred on May 5 at Wild and Crazy Beauty, 4328 N. Broad St. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view the surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPDTIP to report information. ••
