The Mayfair Business Association, the Mayfair Civic Association and the Mayfair Community Development Corporation will be organizing two big events on Saturday, May 17.
The sixth annual Mayfair Fallen Heroes 5K Run & Walk will be held rain or shine. The event will be held in memory of Fire Capt. John Taylor, who died in a Port Richmond fire in 2004. To register or for more information, go to www.mayfairrun.com
The cost is $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the run/walk. Sign-ups will be taken until Friday, May 16, at Bellalisa Hair Studio, 3530 Cottman Ave.
Registration on the day of the run/walk will go from 7:30 to 8:20 a.m. at Mayfair Memorial Playground, Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. The run/walk will begin at 8:30.
Proceeds will go to Hero Thrill Show Inc., which provides college scholarships to the children of Philadelphia police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty, and to Mayfair Memorial Playground.
Later that day will be the Mayfair May Fair, also held rain or shine. Most of the activities will take place along Frankford Avenue, from Cottman Avenue to Bleigh Avenue. Highlights will include live music, military vehicles, carnival games, prizes, giveaways, sidewalk sales, craft vendors and a dunk tank sponsored by Mayfair Town Watch.

Meanwhile, the Mayfair Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Frankford and Ryan avenues. The market will also be open every third Thursday night from June 19 through October. The night will feature live music.
