Section of Verree Road to close for repairs

A small section of Verree Road in Bustleton will be closed for three weeks to a month to repair damage caused by an early Monday-morning water main break.

The damage to the street was so extensive that a part of Verree between Welsh and Pine Hill roads will have to be replaced “curb to curb,” said Philadelphia Water Department spokesman John DiGiulio. That whole stretch won’t be repaired, he stressed, but it will be between Pine Hill and Welsh that work will be done.

Motorists who like to use Verree as a nice diagonal shortcut should start looking for alternate routes.

The 12-inch water main broke about midnight Sunday and was repaired by 1:30 p.m. Monday, DiGiulio said. About 15 properties were affected, he said, and two of those got water in their basements. He said an adjuster already has seen residents about damages to their properties. ••
