I-95 Princeton Avenue on-ramp to close this week

Construction to improve Interstate 95 at the Cottman Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia will require closing the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 North for three nights this week and one night next week to allow crews to set beams for the new southbound interstate bridge over the ramp.

This work is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s $212 million project to enhance travel and safety on I-95 by rebuilding and widening 1.4 miles of the interstate between Rhawn and Levick streets and improving the Cottman Avenue Interchange. Work is currently in progress to widen and rebuild I-95’s southbound lanes.

The Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 North will close at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (May 28–30) nights and the following Monday night (June 2). The on-ramp will reopen each following day by 5 a.m.

Crews will set eight steel beams in place for the new three-span bridge that will carry I-95 South over the ramp and over an adjacent section of Princeton Avenue, which is being extended east from its current terminus at State Road and under I-95 to Milnor Street as part of the ongoing interstate improvement project.

During the ramp closure, Princeton Avenue traffic heading to I-95 North will be detoured north on State Road to Linden Avenue, then left on Linden Avenue to the on-ramp to I-95 north at the Academy Road Interchange.

The Milnor Street on-ramp to I-95 North will not be affected by this overnight operation and will remain open to traffic.

The contractor’s schedule is weather dependent.
