Police issue warning after two Mayfair sexual attacks

Police issued a warning last Thursday that an armed sexual predator may be roaming the streets of Mayfair.

Special Victims Unit detectives believe that the same assailant is responsible for one sexual assault as well as an attempted assault in recent weeks. The attacks targeted women in their 20s and occurred about six blocks apart.

On Friday, April 25, at about 11:45 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was walking along the 3300 block of Tyson Ave. when an unknown man approached her from behind, placed an unknown object to her neck and forced her into a rear driveway between Tyson and Disston Street, where he sexually assaulted her, then fled.

On Saturday, May 17, a 29-year-old woman was walking in a driveway behind homes on the 3200 block of Wellington St. when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her by the neck and pushed her forward. As the woman screamed, the attacker placed an unknown object to her neck and tried to remove her clothing. The disturbance attracted the attention of a neighbor, who chased the assailant to Rowland Avenue before he escaped.

The attacker was described as either a white man or a black man with a light complexion. He’s in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and has a medium build. In both instances, he wore a black hoodie and black sweatpants. Victims saw no tattoos or distinguishing marks on his skin.
