Three Northeast businesses robbed

Welsh Road Surveillance video

Police have posted surveillance video hoping that the public will help them identify the culprits in three recent, unrelated robberies involving Northeast businesses.

The latest case occurred last Thursday at Blue Grass Pharmacy, 2400 Welsh Road. An unknown man entered the store at 9:12 a.m., walked around a bit, then exited. As he left, two other men entered the store, pointed handguns at an employee’s head and demanded prescription drugs. After reviewing surveillance video, police determined that the same lead man had visited the store one day earlier, probably to scout the place.

The first man was described as black, 20 to 30 years old and about 200 pounds. One gunman was described as black, 20, 6 feet tall and thin. A second gunman was black, 20 to 30, 6 feet tall and thin. All three wore gray hoodies and dark pants. The gunmen wore white latex gloves.

Another robbery occurred on June 3 at Family Dollar, 5807 Torresdale Ave., at about 9:20 p.m. The crook waved a metal pipe at a 19-year-old woman employee and demanded cash. When the clerk said she couldn’t open the register, the robber tried and failed to open it. He was last seen running eastbound on Van Kirk Street.

The robber was described as a white man, 30 years old, with dark hair, a beard, a gray hoodie, dark jeans and a black Phillies cap.

On May 22, another gunman robbed the Dunkin’ Donuts at 6323 Castor Ave. at about 7:55 p.m. The bandit pointed the weapon at a clerk, who surrendered $125 from a cash register. The robber fled in an unknown direction.

He was described as a man of unknown race, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build, a gray hoodie with black lettering, a black half-mask and a handgun.
