Franklin Mills funds distributed to area groups

On June 9, the Franklin Mills Advisory Council distributed $89,725 to more than 25 community organizations in an award ceremony at the Northeast Senior Center, 12601 Townsend Road.

Among the 2014 beneficiaries are Academy Sports Association, an all-volunteer staff dedicated to providing youth sporting programs to promote mental and physical health; City of Philadelphia Fire Department Ladder 31; Philadelphia Police Department 8th District; Far Northeast Senior Citizens Center; and Parkwood Youth Organization.

Funded by Simon, owner of Franklin Mills mall, the Franklin Mills Advisory Council has been supporting area youth sports groups, seni-or cit-izens, schools, churches, po-lice and fire and oth-er char-it-able or-gan-iz-a-tions since 1989.

The Council comprises representatives of neighborhood groups primarily located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. Since its inception, the FMAC has donated more than $2 million to community improvement organizations in the area. ••
