Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association recently honored five winners of an essay contest.
Children were invited to write essays on what they liked about Burholme.
The winners were Mikaela Trajano and Isaiah Sassine, of Kennedy Crossan Elementary School; Kathryn McDougall, of St. Katherine of Siena; Cienna Hartnett, of Presentation BVM; and Mariam Camara, of Immanuel Lutheran.
The winners received certificates of appreciation, gift certificates to the Quaker Diner, free miniature golf play at Burholme Family Entertainment Center and free Frosties at Wendy’s for the rest of the year.
Meanwhile, state Rep. Mark Cohen (D-202nd dist.) mentioned that he expected passage of the state budget to possibly extend to early July. His priorities are public education funding and Medicaid expansion. Cohen won May’s Democratic primary by 158 votes over Jared Solomon.
Guests at the June 12 meeting enjoyed water ice and soft pretzels courtesy of the offices of state Sen. Tina Tartaglione and state Rep. Brendan Boyle.
Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association will meet again on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church of the Redeemer, at Cottman and Lawndale avenues. ••
