Heather Wood won the Elizabeth McCloskey Memorial Scholarship. She will be attending Chestnut Hill College.

George Abbott won the John C. Sullivan Jr. Memorial Scholarship. He will be attending Holy Family University.

Each winner received a certificate and $2,000 toward their college tuition.

The fund is named in memory of Joseph C. “Goople” McCloskey (1920–1990), a Tacony native who graduated from St. Leo Grammar School and North Catholic High School.

In 1946, he joined the Philadelphia Police Department, and spent many of his years working with youths at the Police Athletic League. He retired in 1984.

McCloskey is a member of the PAL, North Catholic and Pennsylvania Sports Halls of Fame. ••
