Man gunned down on Frankford street corner

A hail of gunshots claimed the life of a 25-year-old man on a busy Frankford street corner on Sunday night. Early this week, police still had few details to release about the slaying.

Officers from the 15th district responded to reports of a “person with a gun” on the 5000 block of Darrah St. at 11:46 p.m. and found the victim lying in the street with gunshot wounds of the chest, back, legs and arms, the police department’s media relations unit said. The Gun Crisis Reporting Project, citing an unspecified police source, reported that the victim had been shot 10 times and that police found 15 empty bullet shells at the scene.

The victim was taken to Aria Health-Frankford, where he was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Police did not release his identity pending official notification of his family.

Police are seeking a lone unidentified offender, possibly operating a black Jeep, but have released no further description. A specific motive is not known. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. The city offers a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of murderers. ••
