Michael Carpino
Philadelphia police wasted no time in arresting a man for the burglary of a Holmesburg tavern last week, and the snappy investigation was no fluke. Surveillance cameras had recorded video of the alleged crook in action.
The break-in occurred on July 7 at Flukes Irish Pub, 7401 State Road, shortly after 2 a.m. When officers from the 15th district responded to the scene, the owner reported that the business had been closed and locked for the night when he received a call from his security company stating that someone had tripped the building’s alarm.
Investigators recovered surveillance video that showed an unidentified man approaching the front door, looking through the glass and using a crowbar to open the door. Inside the business, another camera filmed the man as he pried open two cash registers that contained no currency. He then fled in an unknown direction.
Later that day, a Highway Patrol officer saw the video on YouTube and recognized the suspect as Michael Carpino, along with Carpino’s white Ford pick-up truck. On July 9, police went to the area of Carpino’s home on the 7100 block of Edmund St., saw Carpino driving his truck and arrested him without incident. Carpino, 55, was charged with burglary and related offenses. ••
