Congregations of Ner Zedek will again welcome back the Broadway Sings professional concert production. The concert is set for 1:30 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, at Ner Zedek, at 7520 Bustleton Ave. in Rhawnhurst.
The performers, who are current and former stars of Broadway hit shows, will be at the synagogue for the ninth time.
“They are a very energetic troupe of singers,” said concert committee chairman Jack Belitsky. “They always put on a wonderful show. Everybody enjoys the show. It’s very nostalgic.”
Belitsky and publicity chairman Don Agriss explained that committee members meet year round, and that ticket sales begin in January.
Synagogue members are big backers of the concert, and the outside community has shown loyal support.
Some 500 people attended a year ago.
“They enjoy the music,” Agriss said.
Firstrust Bank returns as the concert’s prime sponsor. Proceeds benefit Ner Zedek.
The songs will come from popular shows such as Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia!, Les Miserables, The Producers, Rent, Miss Saigon, Chicago, Beauty and the Beast, Jekyll & Hyde and Wicked.
Performers will not be determined until 10 days before the show because they might be scheduled to appear in Broadway shows.
The one constant is host Charles Bergell, who co-founded the company in 2003 and serves as executive producer.
“Charles Bergell is a great emcee,” Belitsky said.
Reserved seating costs $40 apiece.
The cost is $54 for preferred seating. The price includes a post-concert reception.
There will also be a raffle, with six tickets sold for $5. Cash prizes will be awarded at intermission. ••
