A thief didn’t have to break into the cash room at the Franklin Mills Walmart to get at the store’s money on Aug. 3. He had the key.
Nonetheless, the unidentified crook is wanted for burglary in connection with the brazen heist, which involved cash from a safe and additional bank bags, police said.
The crime occurred on Aug. 3 at about 9 p.m. when a man walked to a private area of the store, used a key to unlock the cash room, raided the safe and grabbed numerous other money bags from the shelves. Authorities did not disclose the amount of cash taken. The burglar, who used a scarf to cover his head and obscure his face from security cameras, stuffed the money into a backpack and fled through several hallways, a stairwell and a side exit.
He was described as black, 20 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and a medium complexion, wearing a head scarf, dark blue shirt, tan pants and black sneakers. He had a black backpack with an Eagles logo on it. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view the surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
