Burholme Business Association forming
Business owners in Burholme are invited to attend meetings for the newly formed Burholme Business Association.
The first meetings will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Wesley Enhanced Living, at 7040 Oxford Ave.
There will be a breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. and a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Among those in attendance will be state Reps. Brendan Boyle and Kevin Boyle and representatives of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Burholme Civic Association. ••
Free concert at Older Adult Center
The Northeast Older Adult Center, 8101 Bustleton Ave. in Rhawnhurst, will host a free concert by the City Rhythm Orchestra on Friday, Aug. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The concert will be held outdoors, but would move indoors in case of rain.
Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs. ••
Danube Swabian Festival starts Saturday
The Danube Swabian Festival (Tag Der Donauschwaben) starts at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25, at the Danube Swabian Association, 1277 Southampton Road.
The event will feature five soccer games between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., German music, folk dancing throughout the afternoon, German food and drinks, and children’s games.

Public can fly Memphis Belle this weekend
The public is invited to fly on the Boeing B-17 “Memphis Belle” on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23–24, at Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
Flights will begin at 10 a.m. The cost is $450 for a 45-minute experience, including 30 minutes in the air.

Northeast celebration set for Aug. 23
Take Back Your Neighborhood will host its annual Northeast Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Max Myers Playground, at 1601 Hellerman St.
The free event will take place rain or shine. It will feature food, games, music, literature, blood pressure screenings, children’s fingerprinting, Zumba and appearances by representatives of the Philadelphia Zoo and the Academy of Natural Sciences.
Catholic Community Services has donated 100 schoolbags, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Glen Foerd’s final concert on Aug. 21
Glen Foerd’s final riverside concert of the season will be on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. with a performance by Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society. The group has mastered the speakeasy sounds of the Roaring ’20s and Glen Foerd’s gilded-age estate provides the ideal backdrop to an evening of hot jazz-inspired music.
The concert will be held in the estate’s new outdoor event shelter overlooking the Delaware River and will feature an uninterrupted hour-long set.
Guests will be asked to “pay what you wish” at the gate, although there is no formal admission price. Guests should bring their own lawn chairs and may pack a picnic meal to enjoy during the show.

NORC plans Aug. 28 luncheon
The Rhawnhurst Naturally Occurring Retirement Community will hold a luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 28, at noon at Ner Zedek Synagogue, 7520 Bustleton Ave.

Enroll at St. Christopher School
St. Christopher Catholic School in Somerton invites parents to register their children or schedule a tour.

Flea market and barbecue
Holmesburg United Methodist Church, 8118 Frankford Ave., will host Harvest Day on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The day will feature a flea market, barbecue chicken and collections of food and second-hand items for the needy.
The church is asking the public to bring a bag of nonperishable food items for its food cupboard and another bag of gently used household items for its second-hand shop, Ann’s Attic.
Rummage donations can include knickknacks, household items (no clothes), jewelry and collectibles.
Proceeds from the flea market will help support programs and services of the church, including the daily meal program.
Flea vendor spaces are $15.
