Police trying to ID attempted burglars in Mayfair

A Mayfair resident’s surveillance cameras recorded two men as they allegedly cased his home on the afternoon of Aug. 4, then tried to break into the victim’s garage early the following morning. Police are trying to identify the would-be burglars depicted in the videos.

The targeted home is on the 4000 block of Unruh Ave. The owner’s surveillance equipment first detected the men at 1:22 p.m. on Aug. 4 as they were riding bicycles on the sidewalk in front of the home and stopped, apparently to take a closer look at the property.

The men returned to the block at 2:28 a.m. on Aug. 5. As they walked past the same house, one of them entered the yard, only to flee a minute later, police said. He was seen entering a dark, four-door sedan.

At 5:26 a.m., the two men returned to the house for a third time and were recorded in the rear driveway as they attempted to pry open the garage door, police said. They did not gain access to the garage, although they damaged the lock.

Police did not release detailed descriptions of the men, although one wore pants with two large black patches, one on each thigh. To view the video, visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
