Child shot outside Tacony Branch library

A 9-year-old boy was struck by gunfire outside the Tacony Branch library on Tuesday afternoon, likely an unintended target in what appears to have been a drive-by shooting.

The youngster was walking in front of 4704 Knorr St., across the street from the library, at 3:21 p.m. when a bullet grazed the right side and rear of his head, according to police. Paramedics rushed him to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His condition was unknown as the Times went to press. Police had made no arrests and released no suspect descriptions at that time.

Officers at the scene reportedly said that the boy and his mother had just exited the library and were crossing the street when shots came from a passing vehicle, possibly a silver or gray car. The shooters fled the scene. ••
