Witnesses recognized the man who robbed and shot a teenager inside Torresdale Playground early Sunday night, but he remains at-large, according to police.
The gunfire erupted shortly before 8 p.m. and ended with the hospitalization of an 18-year-old, who was initially listed in critical but stable condition at Aria Health-Torresdale with a chest wound. The victim and a group of his friends were on the grounds of the recreation facility at 9550 Torresdale Ave. when a man approached them, demanded money and brandished a black revolver, police said. As the gunman and victim struggled, the weapon fired. The robber fled prior to police arrival. Police did not say what, if any, valuables were stolen.
The gunman was described as black with a dark complexion, 20 to 23 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with black shorts and a black T-shirt. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
