Was it truly a case of mistaken identity or was something more sinister behind a Northeast father’s fatal shooting of a man inside his adult daughter’s bedroom, a man who turned out to be the young woman’s boyfriend?
Police are trying to answer that question and others as they investigate the slaying that occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Monday inside an apartment on the 2700 block of Axe Factory Road.
According to a police and published news reports, the 41-year-old father told investigators that he heard noises coming from his 20-year-old daughter’s bedroom, so he went to investigate. He encountered an intruder who was positioned near the daughter’s bed. Police did not specify if the woman was home at the time.
The father told investigators that he called 911 and ordered the would-be intruder to stay motionless on the floor. But when the intruder moved, the father shot him in the head. Authorities took the wounded man to Aria Health-Torresdale, where he was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. He was 32.
Police interviewed both the father and daughter. The daughter reportedly told detectives that the victim was her boyfriend. Police had not announced criminal charges or released the identities of those involved as of Tuesday afternoon. ••
