Holmesburg civic pays tribute to local activist

Holmesburg Civic Association president Rich Frizell last week paid tribute to Jim Ryan, a neighborhood activist who died late last month.

Ryan was active with the Friends of Pennypack Park, Town Watch and local Police District Advisory Council groups.

Also at the Sept. 9 civic meeting, guests learned that Holmesburg Library, at Frankford and Hartel avenues, will resume Saturday hours this weekend. The library will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Holmesburg Fish & Game Protective Association, a shooting and sportsmen’s club at 5100 Pennypack St., will hold an open house on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 9 a.m.

Assistant District Attorney Jacqueline Coelho addressed the civic group. Coelho, who has worked for the district attorney’s office since 1996, is the chief of the office’s Northeast Division. She invites Northeast residents to contact her with information at 215-MU6–8934 or [email protected]

Holmesburg Civic Association will meet again on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, at Rhawn and Ditman streets. The guest will be Dr. Joseph Pongonis, who leads The Center for Medical Excellence, on the 8000 block of Frankford Ave. ••
