Vendors wanted for charity event

An upcoming charitable yard sale/flea market is looking for vendors.

Delta Lighting Products, in partnership with the Philadelphia Centurions Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, will be sponsoring the event on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2570 Metropolitan Drive in Trevose.

The rain date is Oct. 18. The vendor fee is $25.

Proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Local animal rescue group holding fundraiser

Northeast Animal Rescue will hold its second annual Pastabilities for Pets fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. at Franklin’s Pub, 3521 Bowman St. in East Falls.

Tickets cost $30 apiece, or two for $50.

Admission includes dinner and dancing. There will be a cash bar, raffle and silent auction. Vegan and vegetarian dinner options will be available.

Payment can be made via Paypal (with an additional $5 fee) or a check/money order can be mailed to: Northeast Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 52395, Philadelphia, PA 19115.

Home health aide course available

Community Care Center of the Northeast is offering a home health aide course on Wednesdays, beginning on Oct. 1. The center is located at 2417 Welsh Road, Suite C, in the Blue Grass Shopping Plaza.

The course will focus on diseases, nutrition, transferring clients within the home and other topics.

Cancer walk in Pennypack Park

Judy’s Answer for Cancer 2.5k Walk/Run will take place on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pennypack Park entrance near Rhawn Street and Holmehurst.

The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for students. Children under 5 participate for free. Anyone who registers by Oct. 1 is guaranteed a T-shirt.

There will be raffle baskets, a disc jockey and free food and beverages. Proceeds benefit the Fox Chase Cancer Center Mammography Van.

Gatsby garden party is Oct. 5

Celebrate the Gatsby Age gardens of Glen Foerd on the Delaware, Philadelphia’s only historic Delaware River estate open to the public, on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. Visitors will enjoy a festive afternoon of fine food, beer, wine, signature cocktails, 1920s music by the Gin Canaries, a silent auction, a chef demo station and a wine pull with the grand prize of a bottle of Dom Perignon. Prizes will be awarded to the best garden party hat and jaunty boutonniere.

Proceeds from the party will benefit the restoration and care of Glen Foerd’s historic gardens and landscape. The estate at 5001 Grant Ave., which is on the National Register of Historic Places, was recently included in the Historic American Landscape Survey, one of only 24 such sites in Pennsylvania.

Tickets cost $75 per person and can be purchased via www.glenfoerd.org or by calling 215–632–5330. The deadline is Sept. 29. PECO and Philadelphia Federal Credit Union sponsor the event. ••

Golf tourney to benefit cancer center

The 20th Annual Mesothelioma Golf Outing will take place on Friday, Sept. 26, at Philmont Country Club, 301 Tomlinson Road in Huntingdon Valley.

The golf outing, which takes place on National Mesothelioma Awareness Day, raises money for mesothelioma research at Fox Chase Cancer Center. To date, the event has raised more than $2 million.

Mesothelioma is an aggressive and deadly form of cancer in which malignant cells are found in the lining of the chest or abdomen. It is directly related to the inhalation of loose asbestos fibers, putting those who work with asbestos and their families at high risk for the disease.

Coach Bag Bingo at FOP this weekend

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 Auxiliary will hold its third annual Coach Bag Bingo event on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. at the FOP Heroes Ballroom, 11630 Caroline Road.

The cost is $35 and includes 15 rounds of bingo. There will also be raffles, door prizes and a 50–50 drawing.

Light refreshments, soda, coffee and tea will be available, along with a cash bar.

Anyone who donates a new coat, hat and gloves will receive a free bingo card.
