’Tis the season: Sisters Alexandra (left) and Amber Simmons paint a pumpkin with their grandmother, Barbara Zubras, at Pumpkinfest in Fox Chase on Saturday.
The Hop Angel Brauhaus in Fox Chase launched a fall full of public festivals last weekend with its inaugural Pumpkinfest on Saturday and Sunday. The German-style public house offered a variety of pumpkin beers and pumpkin dish specials, while engaging visitors in a variety of seasonal activities, including pumpkin decorating.
Next weekend, Sept. 27 and 28, Hop Angel will host its annual Oktoberfest with authentic beers and Bavarian food specials, including a free sausage sandwich to anyone who arrives in lederhosen or a dirndl (3 to 9 p.m. only). On Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m., Hofbrau will sponsor prizes for the best dirndls and lederhosen.
The Hop Angel’s Applefest will follow on Oct. 11 and 12 with hard ciders and apple dishes, followed by Harvest on Oct. 18 and 19, with wet-hopped harvest beers, along with other varieties of harvest beers and locally sourced seasonal food specials.
All festival days begin with a special brunch at 10 a.m. with outdoor festivities starting at 3 p.m., including Kan Jam and corn hole games. Hop Angel is at 7980 Oxford Ave. Visit hopangel.com/fests.html for information. ••
