Police baseball team to play charity game

The Philadelphia Police Blue Sox baseball team will see a change of scenery for its fourth annual charity game to benefit Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Usually, the showdown with the Philadelphia Fire is held at Campbell’s Field on the Camden waterfront. But on Oct. 4, the Blue Sox will travel to the farmlands of Limeport, Lehigh County. The public is encouraged to join the team for an afternoon and evening of classic American fun.

The Blue Sox will play a day-night doubleheader, facing the Allentown Police at 3 p.m., followed by Philadelphia Fire at 6 p.m. Admission costs just $5. All proceeds will be donated to CHOP’s Child Life Program.

Games will be played at historic Limeport Stadium, a venue known as Pennsylvania’s Field of Dreams. Built in 1933, it features old-style grandstands, farmland beyond the outfield fence and a museum with baseball memorabilia from the early and mid-20th century.

The stadium is at 1488 Limeport Pike in Limeport, Pa. For information visit the “Police vs Fire 4th Annual Charity Game for CHOP” event page on Facebook.com. ••
