Thief steals purse from car, buys Xbox

Maybe a gamer was channeling his inner Grand Theft Auto when he smashed a window of an unattended car on the edge of Pennypack Park on Sept. 24. Or maybe he just wanted a new Xbox, but couldn’t afford one.

In any case, he got his new gaming system at the expense of a woman who had left her purse on the seat of her car. The vehicle was parked at 8951 Pine Road. Police arrived there at about 12:30 p.m. The victim reported that the missing purse contained an undisclosed amount of cash and credit cards.

That day, the woman’s bank notified her that her credit card had been used to buy a gaming system and accessories at the Target store at Castor and Aramingo avenues in Port Richmond. Police obtained surveillance video from the store showing a man using the stolen card.

The thief was described as white and thin. He wore a gray shirt with black design on the back, black shorts and a white baseball cap with a black brim and “Flyers” in black cursive lettering across the front.
