Andi Hoxhaj
A 57-year-old Bustleton man was hospitalized in “extremely critical” condition, police said, after a neighbor who was identified as his daughter’s fiance fired dozens of shots from a high-powered rifle in a driveway behind their homes last Thursday evening.
Andi Hoxhaj, 26, reportedly targeted the older man at about 7:30 p.m. on the 8900 block of Alton St. after an argument involving the two. The victim suffered wounds of the arm and abdomen and was clinging to life as paramedics took him to Albert Einstein Medical Center. His condition was unknown yesterday.
Hoxhaj surrendered to police at the scene. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that the shooter was still holding his rifle, which the police commander described as a “very powerful weapon.”
In the driveway, police found empty shell casings for almost 30 rounds, as well as an empty clip that Hoxhaj discarded while reloading. Stray bullets pockmarked nearby row homes, including one residence that was struck 20 times, Small said. No other injuries were reported.
Hoxhaj was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, firearms violations and related offenses. He is being held in Philadelphia’s Detention Center in lieu of 10 percent of $5 million bail. A preliminary hearing date has not been set. ••
