Santa is coming to Holmesburg Library

The public is invited to visit Santa Claus, who will be appearing at the Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), on Monday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Santa will read a story at 5 p.m. and pose for pictures. Kids can also make holiday crafts. Cookies and candy canes will be served.

The event is sponsored by Friends of Holmesburg Library. Call 215–685–8756. ••

‘Beauty and the Beast’ at Holme School

The Jr. Vogue Players will present four performances of Beauty and the Beast at Thomas Holme School, 9125 Academy Road (at Willits Road). Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5–6 and 12–13.

Advance tickets are $8. Tickets at the door are $10, or $9 for senior citizens and kids under 12.

Fundraiser for Northeast Animal Rescue

Northeast Animal Rescue will sponsor appearances by Santa Paws at Pet Valu, 2138 County Line Road in Huntingdon Valley, on Dec. 13–14 and 20–21.

Santa Paws will pose for pictures with animals and humans from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Cost is $10, which includes one 5×7 and four wallet-size photos.

Free beer for toy donation

The Grey Lodge, 6235 Frankford Ave., will offer a free beer to anyone who brings in a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the needy.

The promotion runs through Sunday, Dec. 7

A non-alcoholic beverage will be substituted for anyone who asks.

There is a limit of one drink per person per day.

The toys will be given to the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. ••

CCP offering online courses

The deadline is Dec. 14 to register online for Community College of Philadelphia’s online courses during winter break.

The three-credit courses run from Dec. 15 through Jan. 9. Students are limited to one course.

Course offerings include addiction studies; political science; behavioral health and human; cultural traditions; environmental conservation; global history; introduction to sociology; and juvenile justice.

Tuition for Philadelphia residents is $153 per credit hour. To register, go to www.myccp.com ••

O’Neill collecting Toys for Tots

The offices of City Councilman Brian O’Neill (R-10th dist.) are collecting new, unwrapped toys as part of the U.S. Marine Reserve Corps Toys for Tots program.

O’Neill’s offices are located at 432 Rhawn St., Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 headquarters at 11630 Caroline Road, Bustleton Avenue and Bowler Street and 562 City Hall.

Wintery fun is at the Tacony library branch

The Tacony branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, 6742 Torresdale Ave., will host “Winterfest 2014” at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The event will feature holiday food, music, crafts and a tree lighting. Santa will drop by, too, sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., there will be a presentation by artist Benjamin Volta and architect Jim Keller. They will give a community update on the artwork and renovations planned — as part of the 21st Century Libraries Initiative — for Tacony Library. ••
